Piano Caffe is a charming little restaurant tucked away in The Plaza at El Portal. You will enjoy a warm atmosphere, kind service, strong coffee, delicious food, a great wine collection, and a beautiful fountain view. Often, there is live music by a local performer. Our happy customers would agree that this place will get your mouth watering and your foot tapping!

I am Amanda De Jager Friedman, co-owner of the restaurant. My mom, Renae De Jager is my partner. This restaurant is a concept that had been living in our heads for years, and it is such a blessing to see it come to life!

Since the day I began serving my family gourmet milkshakes as an eight year old girl, it has been my passion to make people smile through food and service. I finished culinary school in 2003 and lived in Denver following graduation and our wedding. I learned some incredible “tricks of the trade” from several successful catering companies while I worked in the Denver area. I’ve also done extensive traveling and research, from New York City to Paris, and even Prague in an attempt to define my culinary point of view.

My husband, Jason, is a professional pianist, and his gigs have taken us all over the West, which has provided a great opportunity for more culinary exposure (and also a theme for our restaurant!).  Of all the things I’ve learned, I know one thing for sure: life’s most precious moments are inevitably centered around food! It is my sincere hope to establish a culture of kindness, relaxation, fulfillment, and musical excellence here at Piano Caffe.

Renae, my lovely counterpart in this operation, is blessed with tremendous ambition. Throughout the years of growing up in my parents’ household, I have witnessed her turning so many things into a success.  More humbling, is the fact that everything she has done is in a charitable spirit. From playing piano in her churches, assembling programs for the football teams, gutting houses for those who are less fortunate, and raising five rowdy kids to become somewhat decent people, she continues to amaze us with her perseverance. From a “food” point of view, I dare you to out cook her! She is the miracle woman who can whip up a solid dinner for ten in an hour! She has fed countless hungry people, strangers, friends and family alike. It is her hospitable and generous attitude that has made this restaurant a possibility. I thank God daily for the opportunity to work with my best friend!
